Hi, angels! By the title I think you know what's today's review! City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare.
If you know me even just for a bit you know how much I love the Shadowhunters world! The Mortal Instruments is one of my favorite book series of all time and The Infernal Devices too (that's where i met my husband James Carstairs of course). Cassandra's books are so good that you won't be able to put it down and this one wasn't an exception.
City of Heavenly Fire is the last book of The Mortal Instruments series and it couldn't have been a better finale. We have Clace! We have Malec! We have Sizzy! Luke's and Jocelyn's wedding! It's ship's party all day and night! And we also have Sebastian\Jonnathan. And I know he is evil but i think i liked him more in this book. I have this love\hate feeling for him and i think i'm not the only one.
"Heroes aren't always the one's who win. They're the ones who lose sometimes. But they keep fighting, they keep coming back. They don't give up. That's what makes them heroes."
In this final book we have the reunion of characters from the past and characters from the future, besides the present characters, of course, which I think is very clever from Cassandra Clare. Characters we already know from The Infernal Devices and the introduction of new characters that will be present in The Dark Artifices (next series). How awsome is that? She really can put all the generations together and make us want more and more! In a way that we never get tired of Shadowhunters and everything that is shadowhunters related.
So, Jace has the heavenly fire in his veins like we already know from City of Lost Souls, the Silent Brothers are trying to get it out but they can't so far. Meanwhile, Sebastian is turning thousands of Shadowhunters in Evil Shadowhunters (Endarkened) with the Infernal Cup. For some moments you really think he can win this war of Shadowhunters against Shadowhunters! In fact, you almost believe in that until the end of the book. Sebastian wants this kind of relationship with Clary even though they're siblings. Weird but he really believe that it's the right thing. I mean, he believe that everything that he is doing is right. Death is right for him. Incest references are right for him. Forcing love is right for him. Running Hell is right for him.
"If I cannot move Heaven, then I will raise Hell."
Moving on... One of the main characters, and important enough for me to cry, die in the first hundred pages! How is that possible?! There was no time for me to get ready for that!
Although they are in danger, trying to save not only the Shadowhunters race but also the human world (mundanes *Jace rolling his eyes*), Jace, Clary, Isabelle and Alec always have time to some love drama. We have this cute moments between Jace and Clary and we really see Jace's evolution. In the first book we had a darker and closed Jace but now he is not afraid of showing his feelings, and more important, he is not afraid of himself and I think that it's really beautiful to see that throught the six books. We also see Isabelle's evolution. More mature and sure about herself. We have always known that she is one of the strongest characters but I think deep down and because of her parents she didn't believed in that a hundred per cent. And, by the Angel, that Sizzy moments can kill anyone!
Magnus is finally ready to tell everything Alec wants to know about him and that's when we are introduced to The Bane Chronicals book. Cassandra really can do everything, can't she? The end is unpredictable and very good! We fear that everything will change a few chapters before and in the very end we have hope that maybe is not everything lost. *Simon gave me some feels, just saying*.
And although there is a lot of death and destruction in this last book, City of Heavenly Fire is also very funny! For me, it's the funniest book in the series. (I will do a post with the funnier quotes, soon). We have a bit of everything in City of Heavenly Fire and everything to fall in love with the story, to fall in love with the whole series in general.
"When did Brother Zachariah get hot?
I hardly recommend you this book. The Mortal Instruments include a lot of books but also include a lot of feelings and emotions and, in the end, you will want more.
Sinopse
In this dazzling and long-awaited conclusion to the acclaimed Mortal Instruments series, Clary and her friends fight the greatest evil they have ever faced: Clary's own brother. Sebastian Morgenstern is on the move, systematically turning Shadowhunter against Shadowhunter. Bearing the Infernal Cup, he transforms Shadowhunters into creatures out of nightmare, tearing apart families and lovers as the ranks of his Endarkened army swell. And with the Nephilim trapped in Idris, who will guard the world against demons? When one of the greatest betrayals the Nephilim have ever known is revealed, Clary, Jace, Isabelle, Simon, and Alec must flee - even if their journey takes them deep into the demon realms, where no Shadowhunter has set foot before, and from which no human being has ever returned...
