In the beggining, when I first started reading the book, I was a little afraid about the story because in the first chapters I wasn't immediatly catched by the story but that have quickly changed. As soon as I was into that I couldn´t put the book down. And I end up loving the book.

Red Queen is about a world where people are divided by their blood. There are the people with red blood and those are the commoners that work hard to survive and they are ruled by the people with silver blood that are the royalty and the rich people. Besides their silver blood, they also have superpowers that they use just to show to the Reds that they are like gods and that no one can beat them.

"Red in the head. Silver in the heart."

Mare Barrow is a seventeen-year old Red girl. Her sister has a good job but she is a little thief that steals what she can to help her family.

One day, Mare sees herself working on the Silver Palace and there it's where she finds out that she has a superpower that only Silvers were supposed to have.

The queen and the king decide to hide her in the palace as a long lost Silver princess and now she is engaged to a Silver Prince. All of this is just a way to keep the balance of power - Silvers in the top and Reds in the rock bottom.

But secretly she is helping the Scarlet Guard, a group that fight for the Red's rights and equality. And she has to be careful, one misstep could mean her death.

The book is very catchy and it's one of that books that you are always "It's just one more chapter".

Besides that, Red Queen has a lot of surprises, good and not so good surprises, but it definitly kept your attention for what is going to happen next.

There are some parts that could've been more developed though.

About the ships, oh the feels, I'm sure that you will be confused about who are you going to ship Mare with and you will probably choose one that you will regret. Personally, I almost made that mistake.

Now I will just wait for the second book (Glass Sword) to be published in Portugal.

"The truth is what I make it. I could set this world on fire and call it rain."

This is the book's synopsis:

Mare Barrow's world is divided by blood—those with red and those with silver. Mare and her family are lowly Reds, destined to serve the Silver elite whose supernatural abilities make them nearly gods. Mare steals what she can to help her family survive, but when her best friend is conscripted into the army, she gambles everything to win his freedom. A twist of fate leads her to the royal palace itself where, in front of the king and all his nobles, she discovers a superhuman ability she didn't know she had.

Except... her blood is Red. To hide this impossibility, the king forces her into the role of a lost Silver princess and betroths her to one of his own sons. As Mare is drawn further into the Silver world, she risks her new position to aid the Scarlet Guard—the leaders of a budding Red rebellion. Her actions put into motion a deadly and violent dance, pitting prince against prince and Mare against her own heart.

If you have read the book or you are thinking about it, please let me know in the comments and please give me your opinion about my review and about the book.

Music Post: Red, by Beth Crowley (she is amazing and her book-based songs are the best)
