Love Virtually is a book about two people whose lives intercected thanks to a simple e-mail, "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year".

Emmi Rother wanted to cancel her subscription to a magazine but because one single letter she ends up sending the e-mail to the wrong receiver - Leo Leike.

The misunderstanding is resolved but Leo receives a colective message from Emmi by accident: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

That's when they start talking. Messages that became diary and, at some point, necessary.

From here the virtual relationship between Emmi and Leo begins and it develop throught the book. They became confidents, advisers, they drink red wine together at midnight (via e-mail), became friends and we can even say lovers. They don't know anything about each other's appearance but it is the words they write to one another that have arouse the mutual interest. Neither of them can have a good day without a message from the other.

This book is written just with e-mails and the only thing we know about the characters is what they write to each other.

I love the fact that neither of them reveals their appearance (Emmi is very interested in Leo's appearance though).

The talks go from a discussion about a message sent by accident to something really intimate and personal. Emmi is a little bit hesitant about revealing some information about her personal life, including her marriage, but step by step she begins to show situations from her private life.

What started with curiosity turned into desire very quickly and the connection between them is almost immediate what, in my opinion, makes the story very catchy.

The humor is a characteristic very present in this book, making it one of the funniest books I have ever read. Emmi is outspoken and Leo enjoys to provoking her.

Besides that, we still have the day they will finaly meet in person. But that day is constantly adjourned and that make us hanker even more for it.

It is a book very easy to read and I liked it a lot! But I hated the end! Personaly, it was the worst end that this book could have! It was really heart breaking.

I think it's very impressive the way Daniel Glattauer can give us to know the characters history just throught e-mail.

I hardly recomend this book!

Synopsis:

"It begins by chance: Leo receives emails in error from an unknown woman called Emmi. Being polite he replies, and Emmi writes back. A few brief exchanges are all it takes to spark a mutual interest in each other, and soon Emmi and Leo are sharing their innermost secrets and longings. The erotic tension simmers, and, despite Emmi being happily married it seems only a matter of time before they will meet in person. Will their feelings for each other survive the test of a real-life encounter? And if so, what then? Love Virtually is a funny, fast-paced and absorbing experience, with plenty of twists and turns, about a love affair conducted by email."

P.S.: This book has a sequel called Every Seventh Wave.
